
Where does the NYE 5k take place?
The NYE 5K starts and finishes at Theater on the Lake (2401 N. DuSable Lake Shore Drive), followed by a post-race celebration and toast for all finishers.
Am I able to walk the 5k?
Yes! Walkers are welcome to join and enjoy the course at their own pace—please note the course closes at 10:30am. Post Race celebration ends at 12pm.
Transport and parking options
Parking is available through Lincoln Park Zoo & park district lots. We recommend everyone carpool or take public transportation. We also encourage you to use driving services.
What items are included with the NYE 5K?
Branded premium item(s), a personalized race bib, your choice of one complimentary drink or a champagne toast, and a finisher’s medal.
How do I track my distance and time?
A designated, clearly marked course will be laid out for all runners, and each bib will include a timing chip.
Are the runners broken up into age groups or run times?

Are there awards for best times?
Yes. Awards will be given out to First, Second & Third place for male and female runners.
Is the route flat, hilly, or mixed?
The route is completely flat and offers scenic, views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.
When will my packet be available for pick up?
Runners will have the opportunity to pick up their race packets before event day for added convenience. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements with pickup dates, times, and locations.
Will there be a gear check on race day?
Yes! Gear Check will be available at Theater On The Lake (2401 N. Lake Shore Drive) on race day, and will open at 7:30am and close at 12:00pm. We recommend checking your gear by 8:30am in order to make it to the start line on time for the 9:00am start time.
Is there an age requirement to run/walk the 5k?
No, there is no age requirement. We offer an under-18 category, but we do ask that minors be accompanied by an adult.
What happens if it rains or snows?
It’s a rain-or-shine event. And let’s be honest—if anyone can handle the elements, it’s Chicagoans.
What can't I bring to the event?
NO OUTSIDE ALCOHOL OR NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES / NO ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES OR CONTRABAND / NO OUTSIDE FOOD / NO WEAPONS / NO COOLERS / NO OVERLY LARGE BACKPACKS & BAGS / NO LAWN CHAIRS / NO TENTS / NO UMBRELLAS / NO ANIMALS.
Am I allowed to dress in costumes as I run?
Yes, costumes are allowed as long as they are safe, non-offensive, and do not disrupt other runners. We love seeing fun, creative race-day looks!
